WARREN, NJ - It took less than three minutes for Watchung Hills to draw first blood in Tuesday evening's girls soccer match against Ridge.

Ridge spent much of the remainder of the contest--especially in the second half--on the attack, but the Red Devils were unable to finish against Warriors' goalie Kaylee Donnelly, whose spectacular effort preserved a 1-0 Watchung Hills victory over Ridge.

Ridge came into the game flying high off an opening day victory over defending Group 4 state champion Hunterdon Central last week, but Watchung Hills is also a defending champion, having won the Somerset County Tournament in 2016. And Jadyn Fleischhaker's goal just 2:30 into the game put Ridge in the hole right away Tuesday.

After that, Ridge goalie Ally Lindsey put forth a superb showing with six saves, while her teammates posed numerous threats to Watchung Hills' slim lead down at the other end. Ridge was awarded a penalty kick with 29:13 left in the first half, but Donnelly thwarted the attempt.

Erin Keefe, Katie Arrigan, Sam Weyrauch, Elizabeth Perna, Kaitlyn Madden and Molly Mahoney all took part in a collective assault that Ridge mounted against Watchung Hills in the second half, when the Red Devils attempted seven shots on goal in a 13-minute span between the 33:00 mark and the 20:00 mark. The last good shot Ridge had came with 5:28, by Mahoney, but Donnelly turned that one away, too.

Ridge outshot Watchung Hills, 11-7, overall. The Red Devils are back in action Thursday at home against Montgomery at 3:45 p.m.
