ALTOONA, Pa. -- The Ridge 13U baseball team lost, 4-2, to Centre County, Pa. in a 10-inning semifinal game of the Babe Ruth Middle-Atlantic Regional Tournament on Thursday.
With Ridge trailing, 2-0, in the fifth inning, singles by Nick Rossi and Julian Kielb set up an RBI double by Andrew Reynolds to get Ridge on the scoreboard. Ridge then tied the game, 2-2, on a squeeze bunt by Steven Dresner, scoring Kielb.
Centre County scored two runs on three hits in the 10th inning.
“After (the) 10-inning loss, I told the boys how proud I was of them and how they should be proud of themselves," said Ridge head coach Brian Reynolds. "They competed, battled, were scrappy and earned the Number 1 seed, going 3-1 against some fierce competition. Most importantly, they did so as a team. Everyone contributed and they supported each other through the ups and downs of a rigorous tournament.”
Reynolds continued, “Although I would have loved to leave Altoona with a Regional Championship, I’m leaving as a very proud coach with a lot of memories of my own. It doesn’t get much better than that.”
Reynolds had some pre-tournament advice for his players, as well.
“Before the first game I told the boys I had one request of them," Reynolds said. "I told them I wanted them to go out and make a memory. Whether that memory was on the field or off, it didn’t matter to me. I wanted them to remember this week 30 years from now, when they’re coaching their own boys’ baseball teams. After watching the boys for the last six days, I’m confident they had an unbelievable experience.”
