BASKING RIDGE, NJ — The Ridge baseball team, which has drawn the top seed in its region for the Last Dance Tournament that begins next week, will be one of the first school-based teams anywhere in New Jersey to resume playing baseball next Tuesday.
The Red Devils will play Rutgers Prep at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the opening game of a doubleheader to launch the Last Dance Tournament. The game will be played at TD Bank Ballpark, home of the Somerset Patriots, and will be the first of two opening pool-play games of the TD Bank Ballpark Region.
Gill-St. Bernard's will play Pingry at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the other opening day game of the region. If Ridge wins on Tuesday, the Red Devils would play another 10 a.m. game Wednesday at TD Bank Ballpark. If they lose the opener, they would play Wednesday at 2 p.m.
Next Wednesday, July 15, also will be the day Ridge High School holds its in-person graduation at Lee Field. Quite a few of the players on the Ridge baseball team would be participating in that ceremony, which is taking place in three parts to comply with Gov. Phil Murphy's restrictions on outdoor crowds (which cannot exceed 500 in one place). The ceremonies will take place at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
If the Ridge baseball team wins its pool-play region, the Red Devils would move on to the bracket portion of the tournament the following week, with games slated for July 22 and, of necessary, July 23.
