BASKING RIDGE, NJ — After navigating its way through the week of pool play with three straight victories last week, the Ridge baseball team will move on to the bracket play portion of the statewide Last Dance Tournament on Tuesday.
The Red Devils will play St. Peter’s Prep Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Caven Point in Jersey City in what will essentially be a home game for St. Peter’s.
Ridge got strong pitching from seven different hurlers in defeating Piscataway, Franklin and Gill-St. Bernard’s last week to advance to the tournament’s round of 32. Ridge is one of 16 teams remaining in North Jersey.
Ridge boasts dangerous hitters at the top and in the middle of its veteran batting order, including Chris Parker, Brendan Bell, Jayden Hylton, Greg Bozzo and Bobby Parisi. But the Red Devils have received some huge hits from batters in the lower part of its order, including Chris Stapleton (two-run triple vs. GSB), George Busnach (RBI single vs. GSB) and Lukas Goodman (two-run single vs Franklin). Jerry Arrigo, a rising senior, starts at shortstop, had a two-run single against Franklin and came in to get the save with a hitless seventh inning against GSB.
St. Peter’s Prep shut out highly regarded Bayonne, 7-0, in its final pool play game to clinch a berth in the round of 32.
