BASKING RIDGE, NJ -- The Ridge High School field hockey team will take to the turf for its opening night game Tuesday, Sept. 3 at 7 p.m against Montgomery at Lee Field.
Coach Kimberly Clark, whose team was 11-9-1 last season, is optimistic about the amount of experience this year's Red Devils will carry into the opener.
Senior attacker Lauren Lusardi led Ridge with 12 goals and also had six assists last season, but she'll have plenty of returning support. Senior midfielders Jaclyn Narleski, who notched 10 goals in 2018, and Megan Olsen and junior midfielder Taylor Ligozio will help control the center of the field to set things up for Lusardi. Narleski is planning to continue playing the sport when she attends Vassar next year.
Janie Islinger is the only senior on a back line that will include sophomores Clare Guliano and Julie Narleski. Junior Emma Albee will take over as the new goalkeeper, and freshman Kiera Ligozio will also see time on the back line.
"We have a number of returning starters from the 2018 season, which means we have more experience," Clark said. "This should help us hold our own in a tough county and conference."
After that home opener, the Red Devils will have to assume the role of road warriors. Their next five matches will all be away from home before they finally return to Lee Field for a Sept. 19 date with Watchung Hills.
