BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Two sophomores from Ridge High School have launched a petition aimed at trying to get local swimming pools reopened.

Andy Moss and Jerry Zheng, both members of the Somerset Hills YMCA Swim Team, created a change.org petition to convince Gov. Phil Murphy to reopen pools for training.

"Competitive swimmers, their coaches and the administrators of their teams are smart and responsible enough to follow the science and professional guidance to return to the pools responsibly," Moss and Zheng said. "Please sign and share. It's worth a shot for the mental and physical health of our student athletes.

Last week, a group began a petition to submit to the Governor a request to allow baseball games to resume being played this summer. That petition has close to 6,000 signatures, but Murphy so far has not relented on his ban of baseball or any other team sports in New Jersey.
