BASKING RIDGE, NJ -- The Ridge 18U summer varsity baseball team scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a tie en route to a 4-3 victory over New Providence Monday night in the opening round of the High School Developmental League playoffs.

Henry Petrillo and Robbie Rutkowski combined for a strong effort on the mound for the Red Devils. Rutkowski was credited with the victory in relief, and he also started the tiebreaking rally with a leadoff single in the bottom of the sixth. Tommy Albanese also had a single in the rally.

Petrillo yielded three runs in five innings. Rutkowski shut New Providence down over the last two innings. In the seventh inning, Rutkowski struck out three batters, getting the first two on called third strikes and then, after a two-out walk, striking out the final Pioneer batter swinging.
