BASKING RIDGE, NJ -- The Ridge boys and girls swim teams both advanced to the NJSIAA sectional semifinals with victories Thursday over Franklin and Watchung Hills, respectively.
The Ridge boys swim team bested Franklin, 101-67, on strong performances by Junior AJ Capizzi who won the 50 free and 100 free events. Senior Chris Fabian lead off a dominant Ridge showing in the 200 free by finishing in first place followed by teammates sophomore Seif Elnawawi in second place and senior Ethan Chiu in third place. Fabian also won the 500 free.
Sophomore Daniel Xia placed first in the 100 fly and second in the 200 IM. Andy Moss, a sophomore, won the 100 backstroke and Jerry Zheng took second. Elnawawi also placed second in the 100 breaststroke while Junior Marshall Wang took second in the 500 free and third in the 50 free. Finally, the team of Capizzi, Chiu, Wang and Fabian won the 200 free Relay and the team of Wang, Zheng, Colin Lee-Au and Moss won the 400 free relay.
The Red Devils girls team topped Watchung Hills, 92-73. Freshman Emily Wang started off by winning the 200 free followed by teammates Tracy Lu, a sophomore, in second and sophomore Emily Shepard was third. Wang also won the 500 free and Tracy Lu took second in 100 fly. Junior Maggie Hannis placed second in the 100 breaststroke and second in the 200 IM while senior Lucy Hess won the 50 free and Junior Zsuzsa Kiss won the 100 fly. Senior Chelsea Lu placed second in the 500 free and third in the 200 IM. Lastly, the team of Wang, Hannis, Sophie Paul and Hess won the 200 medley relay and the team of Tracy Lu, Chelsea Lu, Paul and Wang won the 200 free relay.
The girls and boys team will travel to face a strong Westfield team in the state sectional semifinals on Monday.
