SEWELL, NJ -- Qualifying swimmers from the Ridge girls and boys swim teams competed in the state Meet of Champions, the high school state championships this past weekend at GCIT. 

Ridge had the following swimmers qualify for the meet: seniors Ethan Chiu, Chris Fabian and Lucy Hess; juniors, AJ Capizzi, Ayla D’Silva, Maggie Hannis and Sophie Paul; sophomores Tracy Lu, Andrew Moss and Daniel Xia; and freshman Emily Wang.

Individual Ridge boys team records were set by Chris Fabian in the 50 Free with a time of 21.35 seconds, and in the 100 Free with a time of 46.72 seconds. Freshman Emily Wang set the girls team record in the 200 IM with a time of 2:06.19.  Then the boys relay team of Fabian, Ethan Chiu, Daniel Xia and AJ Capizzi placed 13th in the state in the 200 Free Relay with a new Ridge team record of 1:28.99, a 2.29 second improvement of the record time set by this team earlier in the season. This same relay team also finished 12th in the state in the 400 Free Relay with a new Ridge team record of 3:14.46 and improvement of 1.63 seconds over the team record they set earlier in the season.

Fabian also placed 5th in the 200 Free with a personal best time of 1:42.08, and 8th in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 51.54 seconds. Wang finished in 7th place in the 200 IM and 11th place in the 100 backstroke with a time of 57.58 seconds and AJ Capizzi placed 11th in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 51.32.  The girls relay team of Tracy Lu, Lucy Hess, Maggie Hannis & Wang placed 13th in the 400 Free Relay with a time of 3:38.60, while the team of Wang, Hannis, Sophie Paul and Lu finished in 18th place in the 200 Medley relay with a time of 1:51.64, and the team of Lu, Hess, Paul and Ayla D’Silva place 22nd in the 200 Free relay.
