BASKING RIDGE, NJ -- The Somerset Hills YMCA Swim Team was the No. 1 competitive swim program in all of New Jersey in 2018.
Its performance throughout last year earned the Somerset Hills Y the USA Swimming Club Excellence Award.
Under the direction of head coach Lori Riegler, the team excelled at YMCA 13 and Over State Championships, Eastern Zones Championships, YMCA Short Course and Long Course Nationals, Senior Nationals and Speedo Pro Series meets held nationwide.
Each team’s ranking score is based on the FINA Points Table, a power-point rating system that assigns point values to individual swimming performances based on the Gold, Silver or Bronze tie standard. Contributing to the team’s overall point total were performances by Jack Alexy, Lukas Sceidl and Dylan Wachenfeld during the 2018 long course season. Alexy contributed both Gold and Silver standard swims to the team’s total score. Scheidl and Wachenfeld both contributed personal best times at the Silver standard. The performances of these athletes were totaled and compared to all clubs in the USA Swimming database. The Somerset Hills YMCA Swim Team was ranked 82 in the nation overall and was one of three YMCA swim programs listed in the top 100.
The Club Excellence program recognizes USA Swimming’s highest performing clubs in the development of athletes ages 18 years and younger each year.
This is the second time the Swim Team at Somerset Hills YMCA, a branch of Somerset County YMCA, has been recognized by the USA Swimming Club Excellence selection committee. In 2015, the team was selected as a Bronze honoree. This is the second time the team has been recognized at the Silver level of excellence.
