BAYONNE, NJ – The Lobby Gallery at The JCC of Bayonne will showcase the new and recent works of Bayonne artist Alpana "Tejaswini" Mittal in the exhibition, “Dream Series: The Beginning of an Era,” starting Sunday, Nov. 13.

A reception will be held that day from 1 to 5 p.m. to kick off the month-and-a-half-long event. It is open to the public and free to attend.

“Tejaswini will be showing her art pieces made solely of tiny pearler beads, which form colorful, lively creations,” said Erin Kachmar, JCC of Bayonne director of fine art and exhibit curator.

The pieces appear to be perfectly symmetrical, despite having no pre-drawn blueprints or designs, according to Kachmar.

The artist will also show her oil paintings and textured acrylic work at the exhibit.

Tejaswini has been surrounded by art throughout her life. She gained an appreciation for it as a youngster in India, where her mother was an accomplished painter. Then her passion flowered while being educated.

“When I was in college, one of my professors, Dr. Swarn Lata Mishra, had a major impact on me,” Tejaswini said. “That is where I made a decision that I wanted to be a professional artist.”

She is happy with that decision and where it has led her.

“When your dreams direct your life, your life reflects your dreams,” Tejaswini said, quoting writer Patrick Snow. “Today I can say that my life is reflecting my dreams.”

The artist received her master’s in fine arts from CCS University in India, where she majored in drawing and painting.

Tejaswini resides in the city’s Bergen Point section with her husband and children.

Dream Series will be on display until Jan. 3. Viewing hours are Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
