BAYONNE, NJ – At its Fourth Annual Peninsula Gala at the Bayonne Golf Club on March 22, the Bayonne Chamber of Commerce honored four individuals/groups for their service to the city.

CarePoint Health Chief Operating Officer Peter Daniels lauded the honorees during remarks at the beginning of the ceremony.

“CarePoint Health and Bayonne Medical Center are proud to be a major sponsor for this event again this year, and we congratulate all of the honorees here tonight,” Daniels said. “Each of you has made a lasting contribution to the community, and for that, we thank you.

“At CarePoint we, too, believe community partnerships are the cornerstone to great service,” Daniels continued, “which is why we’ve made partnering with organizations like the Chamber, the Bayonne PAL, the Bayonne Public Schools and the Bayonne Economic Opportunity Foundation, amongst others, a part of our mission.”

The 2018 award winners were: Joseph Barbero, Business Person of the Year; ShopRite of Bayonne, Business of the Year; Luciano Ventrone, The Dan Kane Legends Award; and Patricia Murphy, Bayonne Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame Award.

Daniels said he and CarePoint were particularly gratified to honor Ventrone, the founder of the popular San Vito’s restaurant, because the award he was receiving was named in honor of a beloved, longtime leader at the city’s hometown hospital.

“We are especially proud tonight to recognize the legacy of Dan Kane, the former CEO of Bayonne Medical Center, for his role leading the hospital and his years of tireless dedication to the Bayonne community,” he said. “While he is greatly missed, this award in his name is great testament to his compassion and care for Bayonne.”

“Thank you for the honor,” said Ventrone, who received a standing ovation.

Bayonne Chamber of Commerce President Matt Dorans said that The Dan Kane Legends Award was established to recognize individuals like Kane, the award’s first recipient, for their contributions to Bayonne and its businesses.

“He was a very strong supporter of the town and the Chamber of Commerce,” Dorans said.

The gala’s major event sponsors were CarePoint Health/Bayonne Medical Center and BCB Community Bank. Other sponsors were Inserra ShopRite of Bayonne, Provident Bank, Investors Bank and Delta Self Storage.

Dr. Vijay Singh of CarePoint Health is a Bayonne Chamber of Commerce Board Trustee. Daniels is a member of the Hudson County Chamber of Commerce Board.
