BAYONNE, NJ – Four Bayonne Elite cheerleading teams went to the Cheer & Dance Extreme Grand Nationals by the Sea in Virginia Beach, Va. and came home winners.

The Gems competed in the Mini Rec 8 and Under Division, the Rubies in the Peewee Rec 10 and Under Division, the Platinum in the Youth Rec 12 and Under Division, and Diamonds in the Junior Rec 14 and Under Division last month.

“We had a clean sweep,” said Jenifer Cotter, team spokeswoman. “All four teams came home with national champion titles.”

The girls also won team jackets, bids to two end-of-the-year competitions ("The One" in the Poconos and "The Finale" in Virginia Beach), and championship banners to display in the team’s gymnasium.

The trip highlight was the Diamonds being named Grand Champions, which means they had the highest score of all the teams that competed in their division during the event.

Cotter, also the Diamonds’ head coach, won the Recreation Coach of the Year award.

The Diamonds are now back-to-back national champions.
