Bayonne Diner Fire Extinguished

BAYONNE, NJ – A small fire in a closed attic space over the Bayonne Diner entrance was quickly put out and controlled by the Bayonne Fire Department on Thursday, May 12.

Firefighters were dispatched to the diner at 1075 Broadway just before 6:30 p.m.

“Arriving fire companies found a smoke condition over the entrance to the diner in the roof overhang area,” said Bayonne Fire Chief Keith Weaver. “A small fire was found in this concealed space and quickly extinguished by firefighters using a hose line.”

There was no spread of the fire into the building or onto the roof area. As a result, the damage to the building was limited.

The building was evacuated during the incident. No injuries were reported.

An investigation determined that the fire was caused by an electrical failure in the wiring of a light fixture, according to Weaver.

The department cleared the scene at 7:15 p.m.
