BAYONNE, NJ - The quick actions of the Bayonne Fire Department stopped a fire from spreading beyond the kitchen area of one unit in a two family home on Wednesday. According to Fire Chief Keith Weaver, firefighters responded to a report of fire at 13 Colonial Drive in the Country Village section of the city at approximately 5:22 p.m.
Arriving units found smoke and fire coming from the first floor kitchen area of the two-family home and firefighters immediately put two handlines to use to extinguish the gas-fed fire near the stove. The fire was declared under control at 5:45pm.
While an investigation is underway the incident does not appear to be suspicous in nature, Weaver said. The Bayonne Building Department and PSE&G responded to the incident and one displaced occupant was said to staying with a relative.
