NEWARK, NJ – A Bayonne man will spend the next 40 years behind bars after being sentenced for creating child pornography.
Gregory John Schaffer, 39, was found guilty of two counts of production and one count of possession of child pornography earlier this year in the U.S. District Court in Newark. Federal Judge Jose Linares imposed the sentence on Schaffer early Tuesday.
According to a U.S. Attorney’s Office press release, court documents showed Schaffer videotaped himself abusing a 12 year old girl at a Union City tow-truck office in 2010. Police found the video on a laptop and a second storage device in his office.
Schaffer was also found to be sexually abusing a 14 year old around the same time, with a recording of this encounter also found on the computer and storage device, the press release said.
Aside from Schaffer’s recordings, investigators found more sexually explicit pictures and videos of minors on both devices.
Should he ever be released, Schaffer would be under a “lifetime supervised release” program, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations-New York Field Office, the U.S. Secret Service-New York Field Office and the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office assisted with the initial investigation.
