CarePoint Health gave back to those who give to the community, honoring a half dozen city leaders at the first CarePoint Health Bayonne Community Awards.
Dozens of people packed the Bayonne Golf Club on April 27 to see the six individuals receive their awards.
CarePoint Health-Bayonne Medical Center Chief Operating Officer Peter Daniels said the company is committed to the city’s residents, investing millions of dollars in infrastructure and services since 2008. Among those are the state-of-the-art magnetic resonance imaging equipment added last year and the Emergency Department’s new Fast Track unit opened earlier this year.
“CarePoint has also partnered with McCabe Ambulance to deliver seamless emergency healthcare,” Daniels said. “We truly are neighbors caring for neighbors.”
Mayor James Davis praised the relationship CarePoint Health has with Bayonne. He also credited the hospital with saving his mother’s life.
“CarePoint has invested greatly in the city,” Davis said. “I want to thank CarePoint for what they do.”
The recipients and their award categories:
Dr. Devarajan Iyengar, a physician practicing oncology medicine at CarePoint Health-Bayonne Medical Center who has treated many with cancer, “Healthcare Leader.”
Madeline LoRe, a tireless fighter in the battle to prevent cancer who started her own foundation, “Healthcare Leader.”
Pete Amadeo, Bayonne Supervisor of Recreation who has instituted many new youth programs, including ones for those with special needs, “Service to Youth.”

“We bestow these awards on some of the people who make the city what it is,” Daniels said. “Congratulations to all. Thank you to all of our award recipients for all you do for our community.”
“I want to thank each one of you for what you do and what you bring to the city of Bayonne,” Davis said. “It’s about giving back to our community, and these six know how to do it.”
State Assemblyman Nicholas Chiaravalloti also attended and praised the award winners.
Among the other speakers lauding the honorees were Dr. Vijay Singh, Chief Medical Officer of CarePoint Health-Bayonne Medical Center, and Catherine Shull Fernald, Chief Operating Officer of CarePoint Health-Bayonne Medical Center.
