BAYONNE, NJ - Bayonne’s “hottest” chefs are invited to participate in the 2nd Annual Chili Cook-Off on Friday, March 1.

Following on from the inaugural event’s success in 2018, the City of Bayonne, the Bayonne Urban Enterprise Zone, and the Bayonne Chamber of Commerce are once again hosting the fundraising event which they are postive will be “a fun time with great exposure.”

Tickets for the event that will be held at the Marist High School Gymnasium are just $30 and include chili, a variety of other Mexican cuisine, beer, wine, and soda.

The cook-off will also feature live entertainment, line dancing, and salsa dancing.

“Central to our mission at the Bayonne Chamber of Commerce is to bring attention to our local businesses,” said Gail Godesky, the event’s co-chair. “Guests are guaranteed to have a great time, competitors will be introduced to future customers, and all will be helping an important cause.”

Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Bayonne Fire Canteen which serves emergency responders working at the scene of disasters such as the recent fire that destroyed three homes on Andrew Street.

“Building a stronger Bayonne through our local businesses takes a team effort,” DeeDee Bottino, assistant coordinator of  the Bayonne UEZ told TAPinto Bayonne. “Thanks to Mayor Davis and organizations like the Bayonne Chamber of Commerce, residents have more opportunities than ever to live, dine, and shop Bayonne.”

In order to suit the tastes of guests contestants will mark their chili as mild, medium, hot, and atomic and prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in two categories, one chosen by guests and one selected by guest culinary experts hailing from the Hudson County Community College culinary school.

Restaurants and local organizations with access to a kitchen certified by the Bayonne Health Department and prepared to serve samples of their chili to an estimated 250 guests can enter their recipes for free. All health regulations will be required to be met on the day of the event including maintain their entry’s temperature at 135 degrees throughout the serving time.
