City and Port Authority Issue Bridge Project Updates

BAYONNE, NJ – A portion of 1st Street that had been closed due to Bayonne Bridge construction has been reopened, and the city says that there are no local street closures at this time.

Work on the Bayonne Bridge Navigational Clearance Project, also known as “Raise the Roadway,” began in 2013 and is expected to last until mid-2019.

In addition, the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey said that the bridge construction will only keep the crossing closed for part of the upcoming weekend.

The Bayonne Bridge will close at 11:59 p.m. Friday, June 10 and reopen 8 a.m. Saturday, June 11. The bridge will close again at 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, and will reopen 8 a.m. Sunday, June 12. The bridge will remain open for the rest of Sunday and will not close again until 9 a.m. Monday, June 13. 

From now through Friday, June 10, the bridge is scheduled to close from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. During the weeknights of Tuesday, June 7, through Thursday, June 9, the span is scheduled to close from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following days.
