BAYONNE, NJ - More than a week after he was severely injured in an industrial work accident, Second Ward Councilman Sal Gullace continues to receive treatment at University Hospital in Newark.

According to a spokesperson for his employer, Gullace was injured when part of a truck operated by Direct Waste Services struck him, causing the serious, but non-life threatening injury. Gullace, an employee with the Hudson County Improvement Authority (HCIA) was assigned  as a solid waste facility contract monitor at Advance Environmental Recycling Inc. in Newark when the incident took place.

While COVID-19 restrictions have hampered the ability of city officials to visit Gullace, several reported that he has undergone numerous surgeries and that they continue to monitor the situation.
