ELIZABETH, NJ - An Elizabeth Police officer came to the rescue of a very young child on Sunday afternoon after she had fallen into a swimming pool.
According to Acting Public Information Officer Ruby Contreras, on Sunday afternoon August 26, at approximately 5:33 p.m. Elizabeth Police Officer Leo Nunes arrived at a home where a 1-year-old baby girl had fallen into a swimming pool on Morristown Road.
The child had been underwater for about a minute and a half and was unresponsive when the officer arrived, Contreras said. Nunes performed CPR and was able to revive the little girl.
The child was transported to Beth Israel Hospital where she stayed for 24 hours and is reported to be doing well at this time, Contreras said.
