Elizabeth Woman Charged with Hitting Bayonne Man in Newark

ELIZABETH, NJ-- Fanny Tacuri Sanchez, 34, of Elizabeth has been arrested following an incident that happened in Newark, acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert Laurino and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose announced today.

A Bayonne man was left with life-threatening injuries when a gray four-door Nissan Altima struck the 43-year-old pedestrian on Wednesday morning. The incident happened in the area of 73 Prospect Street.

Three cars were involved in the accident. The victim was transported to University Hospital where he remains in critical condition.

An initial investigation discovered that the pedestrian was struck with significant force, and the impact was great enough to cause serious bodily injury and severe injury to his legs.

The driver was also taken to the hospital. It was later discovered that the driver had an invalid license and has been charged with driving while under the influence and second degree aggravated assault. 

The investigation is ongoing.
