BAYONNE, NJ - A security guard at the Bayonne Medical Center ER had to be treated for his own injuries Friday after a patient allegedly punched him in the face and slashed him across the ear with a small knife.
According to Captain Eric Amato, the incident took place at approximately 10:30 p.m. and began when the suspect, Saladin Blunt, 48, Bayonne, was ordered to leave the Emergency Room after being discharged. The report reads that Blunt did eventually exit but positioned himself directly outside the ER double doors, “acting belligerently towards patients and staff.”
After complying with an order to leave, Blunt complied by walking southbound only to return and attack the security guard from behind with both a closed fist and the knife. Blunt then fled the scene and was apprehended by responding officers several blocks away on Broadway. The knife was never recovered.
During the arrest process, it was learned that Blunt was also wanted on a warrant issued out of the Bayonne Municipal Court.
