BAYONNE, NJ - Two New York men and a Bayonne man, one said to be armed with a loaded semi-automatic weapon, were arrested by members of the Bayonne Police Department early Monday, according to law enforcement officials.
Captain Eric Amato reported that the incident began shortly after midnight when officers responded to the area of West 55th street on a report of a suspicious man checking alleyways. Upon arrival, police observed a suspect, later identified as Olivel Martinez, 20, Bayonne, walking.
At the same time, police located two additional males, identified as Joseph Mackenson, 29, and Roobentz Mary, 19, both of Brooklyn in parked, but running, Toyota Yaris with Florida license plates. Noticing the police presence, the report says, the two men exited the vehicle and began to flee on foot launching a foot chase.
As officers were in pursuit, Mary is said to have reached into his waistband and discard a handgun beside a building in the area of 49th Street and Avenue C. Police caught up with Mary in the area of 55th Street and arrested him, while Mackenson was found hiding underneath a parked vehicle on West 56th Street.
Continuing the investigation, police recovered the Smith & Wesson handgun in the area of 49th Street and Avenue C and also determined that the car they were initially found in, was stolen. Police later found a Kia Optima with Pennsylvania license place parked and blocking a fire hydrant in the area of West 55th Street which contained a bag of raw marijuana on the floor in front of the driver’s seat. A key to the Kia was recovered from Mackenson during processing.
All three men were charged with Burglary, Receiving Stolen Property, Possession of Marijuana, and Conspiracy, while Mary was further charged in relation to possession of a handgun, and transferred to Hudson County Jail.
