BAYONNE, NJ – A Jersey City teen was caught by Bayonne police officers inside a burglarized SUV early Wednesday morning.
According to a police report, the 16-year-old was a part of a larger group of teenagers “checking car door handles” in the area of 57th Street and Avenue B at 1:05 a.m. on Wednesday morning.
After police were alerted of the incident, responding officers saw the teen walking around an SUV near the parking lot at 1225 Kennedy Boulevard.
As the responding officers drove towards the SUV, they saw the teen rummaging inside the vehicle. Police said the teen ran towards 56th Street when he noticed them approaching, leading to a brief chase.
The report said police quickly “intercepted” the teen and arrested him on West 56th Street.
According to police, the owner of the SUV said, “nothing was missing.”
The teen was charged with burglary and resisting arrest.
