BAYONNE, NJ - Although not yet on the agenda for the August 19 meeting, the Bayonne City Council is expected to support a move that would allow Lincoln Equity Group (LEG) to negotiate with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) to purchase 13 additional acres to expand on what will become the largest and most modern warehouse facility in Bayonne.

City Planner Suzanne Mack said the Bayonne Planning Board has already given its approval to the expanded plan that would generate additional jobs beyond the 2,700 officials said would be created by the high tech warehouses. 

The city originally sold the 90-acre site in the Maritime District of MOTBY to LEG in 2018 for about $326,000 allowing them to construct six million square feet of industrial warehouse designed to serve nearby shipping operations. As part of the deal LEG also agreed to cover the estimated $2.2 million Bayonne would have otherwise incurred to demolish the existing structures on the site. The project is expected to take about three years to complete.

“This is a huge project,” Councilman Neil Carroll said, adding that he hopes to see union members working on the site. “It will involve hundreds of millions of dollars to construct. But I think for a project this size they will use union labor in some capacity.”
