BAYONNE, NJ - To celebrate International Nurses Day and to honor the service and commitment of more than 300 nurses at Bayonne Medical Center, BMC Hospital LLC donated 1,000 face coverings for Bayonne residents.
BMC Hospital LLC announced that they had signed a letter of intent to purchase Bayonne Medical Center, and on the same day as the donation announced they’d be changing the hospital’s name to Bayonne Hospital.
“Bayonne Medical Center’s nurses, physicians, medical and support staff have performed heroically week after week during this crisis,” said Wayne Hatami, president of BMC Hospital LLC, “and they deserve our utmost gratitude. What better way to mark this 200-year milestone of nursing than to provide a simple precautionary item for this great community.”
The stockpile of new face coverings was presented to Mayor Jimmy Davis for distribution to residents throughout Bayonne’s neighborhoods.
“Never before have we worked so closely,” Davis said, promising a continuing partnership among city leaders, residents and the hospital. “Our virus response demonstrates what can be done when our great professionals get the local support they need.”
Hatami added, “the theme of this year’s Nurses Day celebration is ‘Nursing the world to health,’ and Bayonne Medical Center nurses do outstanding work toward that goal every day, especially during the COVID-19 crisis.”
The face coverings can be used by residents to help protect them from exposure to the COVID-19 coronavirus that has infected about 650 Bayonne residents, many of whom were treated by the nursing staff at Bayonne Medical Center. Among the 650 infected residents, 175 residents were treated and recovered. As of May 1, the virus had claimed 51 lives in Bayonne.
BMC Hospital LLC is made up of Wayne Hatami, Anthony Degradi, Feliks Kogan and Gregg Rock, D.P.M. who have more than 70 years combined experience in private practice and healthcare facilities in New York and New Jersey.
International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world every May 12, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birth in 1820.
