BAYONNE, NJ – This year’s summer in Bayonne meant not only warmer temperatures and fewer rainstorms than usual, but also more time for water enthusiasts to launch their motorboats or sailboats for recreation.
Seeing sailboats traverse the waters around the Peninsula City evokes the memory of its history as a yachting center in the mid-to-late 1800s. At that time, Bayonne was frequented by people by boat from many points on the eastern seaboard, with a number of them destined for the then Hotel LaTourette at Bergen Point.
Bayonne-area boaters make their way to and around the city via Upper New York Bay, the Kill Van Kull, Newark Bay and the Hackensack River.
Weather predictions for the rest of the summer break look favorable for boaters and others seeking to have fun. Forecasts call for temperatures in the 80s and a slight chance of rain.
