BAYONNE, NJ - Keeping pressure on both CarePoint Health and state officials to ensure that Bayonne residents continue to have access to healthcare delivery, Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis will marshal volunteers this weekend to knock on doors in an effort to garner more support to keep a full service hospital open in Bayonne.
The announcement comes just weeks after Davis launched an online petition on the matter that has garnered over 1,800 signatures.
“We as a city are doing everything within our power to ensure Bayonne residents will continue to have direct access to an acute care facility,” said Davis. “We have already brought this fight to Trenton and we are making it clear we will not be silent when our safety and wellbeing are at risk. But now, I’m asking for all of Bayonne to come together to save our hospital because we are stronger together and cannot do this alone.”
CarePoint Health, the owner the local hospital that has provided care to generations of local residents for over 100 years, announced recently that they had reached an agreement to sell Hoboken University Medical Center and Christ Hospital in Jersey City to RWJ Barnabas Health and were seeking a “strategic partner” for the Bayonne Medical Center.
