The Bayonne Education Foundation honors Theodore Garelick, Bayonne Board of Education Trustee, at Annual “Welcome Back to School Celebration”

The Bayonne Education Foundation is pleased to announce Bayonne Board of Education Trustee Theodore Garelick as the recipient of the 2017 Lifetime Achievement in Education Award.

Mr. Garelick will be honored at the Bayonne Education Foundation’s Annual “Welcome Back to School Celebration” on Thursday, September 28th, 2016 at 6PM at the Bayonne Community Museum (229-331 Broadway). Tickets to the event are available for $60 per person, and include a buffet dinner catered by Cafe Bello, along with beer, wine, soda, coffee & desserts. The evening will feature raffles, door prizes, and entertainment. Proceeds from the event will support the Bayonne Education Foundation initiatives for the 2017 - 2018 academic year.

Mr. Garelick was born and raised in the city of Bayonne, attending Bayonne public schools, St. John’s University, St. Peter’s College (BS), and Wagner College (MBA). After serving our country in the United States Army, Mr. Garelick received his honorable discharge from the Army on a Friday and began a 30 year career with IBM the following Monday. Theodore, known to friends and family as Ted, worked as Computer Engineer, Field Manager, Technical Support Supervisor/Instructor, Management Development Instructor, Branch Manager, and Personnel Director during his tenure with IBM, and was a member of the national technical committee of the vocational industrial clubs of America - VICA. He retired from IBM and began his second career with Omnipoint Communications, from which he retired as Human Resources Director.

Ted has dedicated his life in civic service to his community, with various membership and leadership roles for the Bayonne Medical Center, Temple Beth AM, the Bayonne Environmental Commission, the Bayonne Planning Board (Chairman), the Bayonne Board of Education, the Simpson-Baber Foundation Advisory Board, and Advisory Boards for Pamrapo Bank and Windmill Alliance. Additionally, Mr. Garelick is both a Mason and a lifelong member of the American Legion.

Ted and his beloved wife Phyllis (formerly Wasserman) are the proud parents of Shari and Stuart Berman, Esqs., and Lisa and Gary Garelick, as well as the extremely proud grandparents of Ethan, Aidan, Ava Rose, and Gavin Hudson Berman, and Jared and Noah Garelick. In his limited spare time, Ted enjoys photography, vacationing, and retreating to his Pocono home.

John Rodrigues, President of the Bayonne Education Foundation, is proud the foundation will recognize Mr. Garelick, describing him as ”an exceptional role model and leader, demonstrating excellence and professionalism in serving parents and students of the Bayonne Public School District and the community of Bayonne, at large”. The Bayonne Education Foundation is a charitable non profit organization, dedicated to providing academic enrichment and support to the students of Bayonne.
