BAYONNE, NJ – Parents rejoice! The Bayonne School District has announced September 5 as the first day of the 2018-19 school year.
The recently approved calendar, which was included in a district Facebook post on Thursday, shows the projected last day of school being June 26.
Highlights of the schedule include a week off in November for Election Day and the NJEA Convention, a 12-day winter break covering the end of December and early January, as well as a week off for Spring Break in the fourth week of April.
The schedule is subject to change with days being added or removed depending on the amount of inclement weather or unforeseen closings.
Students and staff open the year with three abbreviated days on September 3-5, with students also being off on September 28 for staff training.
In October, following a district-wide closing for Columbus Day, there will be an abbreviated schedule on October 28 for staff training.
The district will close for a week of school days in November to accommodate Election Day and the NJEA Convention from November 5-9, with two additional days off for Thanksgiving on November 22-23.
Winter Break will cover 12 days from December 22-Janury 2, with a return date for students scheduled for January 3. Teachers report one day earlier for a staff training day on January 2.
Between January and February, students and staff have off for Martin Luther King Day (January 21) and Presidents’ Day (February 18). Students will also have off on March 18 for a staff training day.
Spring Break is tentatively scheduled to begin with an abbreviated schedule on April 18 and last through April 28.
