BAYONNE, NJ - A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Bayonne police Saturday after trying to intervene when an officer detained another teenager during an investigation.

According to Lt. Eric Amato, the incident began when officers responded to the area of West 30th Street on a report of a large group acting in a disorderly manner while jumping on parked vehicles.

Upon arrival, officers observed a large group of individuals, many of whom scattered once they saw the police, sitting on parked vehicles and yelling profanities.

With the 15-year-old being held for an investigation continuing to attempt to flee, the report read, the younger suspect “interfered by placing his body in between the officer and the 15-year-old juvenile and pushing the officer away.”

Despite the commands of the police officers both juveniles are said to have continued to resist custody until backup officers arrived and both juveniles were safely placed into custody.

The 15-year-old juvenile was released to a parent without a formal arrest while the 13-year-old was charged on a juvenile complaint and released to a parent with a court date.
