BAYONNE, NJ - Dressed in full uniform and feathered hats, members of the Bayonne High School Marching Band paraded into the Bayonne Board of Education on Tuesday where they were honored for a remarkable year in competitions.
The band, board members noted, had brought “honor and distinction” to Bayonne High School and the community by winning second place at the USBands State Championship in Hillsborough, New Jersey and coming in fourth place at the USBands National Championship at J. Birney Crum Stadium in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Their 2019 field show, “Don’t Stop Me Now”, featuring hits from operatic rock banc Queen, won the performers several accolades throughout the season including back to back wins in Edison and Brick in September. They also won for Best Color Guard and Best Percussion at the state championship.
Board members also recognized Band Director Samantha Hitchell and some of the other key people including Robert Cuevas, color guard instructor, Alyssa Rodrigues, for her leadership of the wind instrument section, and Giancarlo Megale, who helped percussion players keep the beat throughout the season.
The 52-member ensemble was led by senior Drum Major Julia Gordon. Section leaders include Carl Basil Blasa, Alejandra Figueroa, Maggie Caley, Joaquin Munyan, Gabriella Meg.
