BAYONNE, NJ - The Christmas spirit, and a bit of holiday magic, filled the Catholic War Vets on Saturday as Bayonne children, along with the elves that have taken up residence in their homes until Christmas Day, celebrated the Hometown Fair Association's Elf Meet Up. While this was the Fair's third annual holiday gathering it was the first to feature the elf-inspired theme.
Most the of the elves were well-behaved, though a few of the sometimes mischievous helpers of Santa Clause found themselves in questionable places, including one that clung tightly to a blow up snow man as another hid behind a speaker. A third, more relaxed, elf was found lounging in a bucket of kettle corn and marshmallows.
Several vendors offered their holiday themed goods for sale and children had opportunities to take selfies, send letters to Santa, and even meet the big man himself. For the children concerned that their elves may have been touched by human, thereby losing their magic, an elf medic station was also established.
While the Grinch also lurked around the room there was no stealing the Christmas cheer that seems to be spreading throughout Bayonne.
The Hometown Fair will be held on June 6 and 7.
