BAYONNE, NJ - The holiday spirit was evident Saturday as many Bayonne families enjoyed horse & buggy rides along Church Lane and Broadway..

Hot chocolate was provided to the children by Carvel and Santa Claus made a special appearance at the annual event hosted by the City of Bayonne, Bayonne Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ), and Bayonne Special Improvement District (SID) Merchants.

Encouraging residents to shop local, during the holidays and all year long, Dee Dee Bottino, assistant UEZ/SID coordinator, offered a reminder that "local businesses are owned and operated by your neighbors, they care about, and are invested in, the well-being of your community, and its future."

There are several ways to help support the local economy in Bayonne by thinking local first, Bottino said, including:

  • Trying the menu at a local restaurant for lunch or dinner
  • Purchasing a birthday present at a local gift shop
  • Joining a local gym
  • Visiting a local nursery or hardware store for lawn and garden needs
  • Getting cars serviced by local mechanics
