BAYONNE, NJ - Bayonne residents are invited to participate to help launch a new community reading initiative created to celebrate literacy.
Through the Bayonne Reads One Book, One Community, and thanks to the generosity of sponsor BCB Bank, all participants will read and discuss the same book.
Launching on Thursday in the Gallery of the Bayonne Public Library, participants will receive a complimentary copy of “The Things They Carried”, written by author and Vietnam Veteran Tim O'Brien. Considered to be one of the best works of fiction ever written about war, “The Things They Carried” is a collection of stories about the Vietnam War.
In addition to the book, participants will also here from Vietnam veteran, Tony Goodson, and Vietnam era veteran, Glen Flora,.and view items from the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and Museum in Holmdel currently be on display in the Library.
“Given Bayonne’s proud military history, ‘The Things They Carried’ is a great book with which to begin our collective literary journey,” organizers said.
