BAYONNE, NJ - At Bayonne High School teaching, and extracurricular activity, goes well beyond the traditional three Rs of education, reading, writing and arithmetic.
That was evident again on Thursday when Mayor Jimmy Davis presented members of the school’s Latin Club a special proclamation in honor of the City of Rome’s birthday.
Rome, now the capital of Italy, was founded in 753 BC making the historic city just days shy of 2,771 years old.
Supervised by Latin teacher Craig Jacobs, The Latin Club, a chapter of the New Jersey Junior Classical League, promotes the classical virtues of academic excellence, camaraderie, and leadership. The club encourages social action, and has carried out food drives, yarn drives, and other activities to help people in need.
