BAYONNE, NJ - Bayonne’s public schools will have a new slogan when students and teachers return to their classrooms after the holiday break. The announcement came last week at the Board of Education’s final meeting of the year.
Although individual schools have had slogans of their own, this is the first time a district-wide slogan has been adopted, according to school officials.
Schools Superintendent John Niesz said his goal was to establish a student-centered theme that represented the whole district and had the ability to bring all students under one common slogan. After soliciting ideas from the Bayonne High School Student Council, as well as having a vote, the schools chief added, one was adopted: “The Youth of Today…The Leaders of Tomorrow.”
“We started out with ten ideas,” Niesz said. “We narrowed these down to the top three and then held a survey of the entire student body at the high school to see which one they thought was best.” The survey was posted on the Bayonne Board of Education’s website and shared via social media. Voting was open to students, faculty, parents, and members of the community.
The winning slogan received 605 votes while, “When You Believe, Great Things Happen and “Creating Excellence One Day at a Time” garnered 382 votes and 388 votes respectively.
The slogan has already begun to appear at various places throughout the district, Niesz said.
