BAYONNE, NJ - Just hours after a Jersey City Police Detective was killed by a gunman Bayonne Public Schools Superintendent John Niesz issued a statement announcing that the Bayonne Police Department was investigating threats posted on social media that a similar incident would occur at Bayonne High School on Wednesday.

“As Superintendent I am disgusted to send this message to our community,” Niesz said in the statement after assuring parents and guardians that their children will be safe in school. “I am a retired police sergeant and I take this threat personally for all of our students, parents, guardians, faculty, and staff.”

After praising the efforts of law enforcement Niesz called the online threats “absolutely deplorable” and promised that those responsible will be “prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
