BAYONNE, NJ - For several local families displaced from their homes by fires last weeks Christmas might have been looking bleak.

Unwilling to let any of the residents he represents as mayor go without, Jimmy Davis, perhaps channeling his inner Santa Claus, decided to do something about that.

On Wednesday, as children across Bayonne opened presents that had been left under their tree, Davis, with some assistance by the man in red, and several local elves, helped save Christmas for the children impacted by the blazes.

“I love how our city comes together,” Davis said. “Through the kindness of so many people, hundreds of toys brought smiles to so many faces today.”

Davis went on to thank Mayor Mike Gonnelli of Secaucus, as well as that city’s fire department for delivering the toys, city hall employees who took time from their families to help wrap them and prepare city hall, and  Kamal Girgis and Ed Broderick for their support.
