BAYONNE, NJ - Work has started on the second phase of Dennis Collins Park improvements.

Named for the former Bayonne mayor, the park partially stands on a site that includes the former Uncle Milty’s amusement park and includes the city’s World War II Memorial, playgrounds, Brady’s Dock, Little League ball fields and other amenities.

Councilman Neil Carroll III, who represents that part of the city, said the first phase rebuilt a number of the larger recreational facilities on the western section of the park. Phase I included a new site fencing, new playground equipment, new landscaping, a new walkway, and the installation of new bonded rubber surfacing.

“The new work will concentrate on some of the self-enclosed facilities such as the tennis courts,” Carroll said, adding that similar upgrade work will be undertaken on the eastern section of the park.
