BAYONNE, NJ - Mayor Jimmy Davis has taken his fight to protect Bayonne Medical Center from possible closure to the internet.
In a Facebook post on Friday Davis announced that he had launched an online petition to “Save Bayonne Hospital.”
Echoing Davis' comments from earlier in the week the petition states that “a healthcare crisis is looming in Bayonne” and that Bayonne residents must stand together because they “deserve and are entitled to accessible healthcare.”
On Tuesday CarePoint Health, the owner the local hospital that has provided care to generations of local residents for over 100 years, announced that they had reached an agreement to sell Hoboken University Medical Center and Christ Hospital in Jersey City to RWJ Barnabas Health and were seeking a “strategic partner” for the Bayonne Medical Center.
Davis also led a delegation that included Bayonne’s legislators to Trenton on Thursday to meet with State Department of Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli.
“She is aware we will do everything in our power to keep Bayonne Medical Center open and that this fight is only just beginning,” Davis said following that meeting.
The petition sought 1,000 online signatures and had gathered 767 as of the time this story was published.
