BAYONNE, NJ - Members of the Bayonne Fire Department once answered the call on Saturday, this time to help make the city they all protect every day cleaner and greener.
“Mayor Davis asked that all of Bayonne do their part,” Michael Monczewski, president of FMBA Local 11, the union that represents Bayonne’s rank-and-file firefighters, said of the Earth Day inspired effort that saw their members beautifying the areas outside of Bayonne’s fire houses. “Now, more than ever, we are seeing the importance of community, and we all want to help make our city an even better place.”
Earlier this month Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis proposed an "alternate plan" to usual Earth Day activities that had to be postponed because of social distancing protocols and asked every resident to step outside for a few minutes on Saturday and clean the area in front of their home.
"It doesn't matter if you own or rent, we are asking that all of Bayonne help to keep our city looking good." If your neighbor isn't able to do it, Davis asked others to do it for them.
