TRENTON, NJ - Drivers traveling between Jersey City and Kearny may need even more time in the coming days as emergency steel repairs to the Route 7/Wittpenn Bridge are undertaken. New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials announced that Route 7 westbound was closed Saturday resulting in a single lane of traffic in each direction using the eastbound lanes.
Westbound traffic is shifted back to normal configuration on the Kearny side of the bridge before the ramp to Fish House Road. This closure and traffic configuration is expected to remain in place through Saturday, May 16. If work is completed earlier, the road will reopen sooner.
Permanent and portable variable message signs are being utilized to provide advance notification to the public of all traffic pattern changes associated with the work.
