BAYONNE, NJ - Bayonne police are investigating an alleged carjacking that occurred on July 30.

According to Lt. Eric Amato, the 19-year old victim reported that after parking his car, a 2006 Toyota Corolla, in the area of 49th Street and Avenue E, he was approached by two males who had exited from a beige colored car. 

One of the men pointed handgun at the victim while the other stole the victim’s car keys and iPhone. The suspect with the gun is said to have returned to the beige vehicle while the other suspect entered the victim’s vehicle.

Both suspect then fled in the vehicles northbound on Avenue E.

On Wednesday a statement by Newark Police Chief Anthony Ambrose announced that the two suspects had been arrested, only to be corrected by Amato in a subsequent statement that said  those suspects, Marquis Speed, 33, and Michelle Hortonlee, 21, both of Newark, were arrested on outstanding warrants out of Bayonne on charges of Credit Card Theft and Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card associated with the carjacking investigation, not for the carjacking itself.
