BAYONNE, NJ -  A Newark man was arrested Saturday after Bayonne police responded to Lord Avenue on a report of a fight where the suspect was allegedly in possession of a knife.

According to Lt. Eric Amato, police arrived on the scene Saturday morning where they met a 30 year old male who said that Jose J. Bonano, 22, started an argument with him while he was speaking with another resident in the apartment he was visiting.

The report states that the argument continued outside of the apartment complex and became physical when Bonano punched the victim in his face, and subsequently pulled a knife with which he attempted to stab the victim in the face.

Bonano is said to have then fled the scene only to be apprehended by police in the area of West 1st Street and Kelly Parkway at approximately 10:45 a.m. Bonano was charged with Aggravated Assault, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and taken to Hudson County Jail.
