BAYONNE, NJ - The victim of an early morning shooting that took place Sunday has been identified as Bayonne resident Diamond Robinson, 26.
A statement by Hudson County Prosecutor Suarez confirmed earlier reports that the shooting took place at approximately 5:10 a.m. at 484 John F. Kennedy Blvd. Upon arrival members of the Bayonne Police Department found the victim with an apparent gunshot wound. Robinson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Among the tributes to pour into Facebook for Robinson was one from Chris Gadsen, principal at Lincoln High School in Jersey City who called the victim one of his “favorites.”
“You taught me not to take everything so serious as a teacher. You made me and everyone laugh. This hurts so much. Such a loss to your family and friends. You touched so many lives. I love you Diamond,” he continued before lamenting “every year I lose one of my own. My students are supposed to outlive me.”
The suspect, Anthony Schuler, 28, Jersey City, previously charged and recently acquitted in connection to a 2010 shooting that left one man dead, was apprehended a short time later and subsequently charged with a number of crimes including murder.
Suarez credited the Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit for the preliminary investigation and the Bayonne Police Department with the arrest and assistance.
