PATERSON, NJ - The suspect arrested in the high profile shooting and attempted murder of retired Boston Red Sox player David Ortiz is also wanted locally in relation to two armed robberies that took place in Clifton on December 22, 2017.
According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Clifton Police Chief Mark P. Centurione, Rolfi Ferreira-Cruz, 25, of Reading, Pennsylvania was identified as the suspect in those incidents and subsequently charged with multiple crimes including Armed Robbery, Possession of a Firearm for an Unlawful Purpose, and Possession of hollow point bullets. He faces up to 40 years in jail if convicted.
The suspect, also charged with the attack which left Ortiz shot in the back, has never been apprehended in the robberies of a 26-year-old Passaic man and 41-year-old Clifton man.
According to a press release issued by the National Police of the Dominical Republic Ferreira-Cruz has admitted to being the shooter in the Sunday attack on Ortiz.
