BAYONNE, NJ - Members of the Bayonne Fire Department have had a busy Saturday, officials said, first battling a structure fire and then responding to a motor vehicle accident that included a car landing on its roof.
Firefighters first responded to a structure fire at 888 JFK Blvd. just after noon, finding smoke and flames coming from the vacant building. With a quick effort they managed to keep the flames from spreading into the attached home and bring it under control within 20 minutes. No injuries were reported in the blaze that drew a response from three engines, three trucks, and a rescue company.
Less than an hour after returning from the JFK Blvd firefighters, along with police and EMS personnel, were dispatched to 48th Street and Ave C in response to a two car motor vehicle accident. Arriving units found a Jeep overturned. While the driver was able to escape uninjured firefighters worked to stabilize the vehicle and make the area safe. Numerous street closures in the area caused some congestion in the uptown following the incident.
