BAYONNE, NJ - 13 residents are out of their homes and being assisted by the Bayonne Office of Emergency Management Red Cross after a fire tore through their home at 9 New Street on Friday.

According to Chief Keith Weaver, members of the Bayonne Fire Department were called to the scene at 8:48 a.m. and immediately confronted with smoke conditions and flames in the basement.

Firefighters were able to knock back the flames before they spread to an adjacent home and bring the fire control in just over 30 minutes.

There were no injuries and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
